How to identify the authenticity of marble lamps

2025-06-27

1. Identification of texture characteristics

Marble is mainly produced in Spain. This stone is relatively soft, presenting a pure white color, and is relatively easy to polish and shape. At present, the stone commonly used in China to make lampshades is rosin jade, which is also called rosin yellow due to its unique yellow appearance. Unlike marble, rosin jade is hard and must be polished with the help of mechanical equipment. The most notable feature of marble is its unique marble texture, which occasionally changes to black or brown. For real marble lamps, the texture on each lampshade is naturally formed and has no regularity; while the texture of imitations is artificially processed, with strong regularity, and the texture of each lampshade is almost exactly the same.

2. Judgment of weight difference

When choosing a marble lamp, weight is also an important basis for judgment. For marble lamps of the same size and specifications, the weight of the genuine one will be significantly heavier due to the material characteristics of natural marble; while the weight of the imitation marble lamp is relatively light because it uses other lightweight materials.

3. Observation of lighting effects

Lighting effects are the key to distinguishing the authenticity of marble lamps. The light of genuine marble lamps can be evenly and softly diffused, presenting a symmetrical lighting effect as a whole; on the contrary, the light of imitations is often concentrated in one place, and the light distribution is extremely uneven, which cannot achieve the natural and soft lighting effect of the genuine ones.

4. Identification by touch

Touching with hands is also an effective way to distinguish marble lamps. The surface of a real marble lamp feels like frosting, with the unique texture of natural stone; while the surface of an imitation marble lamp is as smooth as a mirror, and it does not have the unique touch of the genuine one.

5. Inspection of composition characteristics

The authenticity of marble lamps can also be identified from the perspective of material composition. Marble is soft in texture, and if it is scraped with a blade, powdery debris will be produced; if it is gently tapped with a hard object, obvious marks will be left on the surface. Imitations are different. Scraping with a blade will produce flaky debris, and no marks will be left after tapping with a hard object.
